On the RVS there is an incuse area running through ATES of STATES to the rim of the coin. Does this look like it was struck through some kind of debris?

I would like to see a closer look at the trench. The bottom should be smooth. The area to the right of last 'S' on STATES has a different pattern there?

Thanks for the extra images.

It does appear to be a struck through.

I just wondered why die flow was transferred to the trench and the top of the 'S'?
