Have been reading up, trying to decide which to pick up and wondered if the mints have fixed this problem. Also, do the rounds end up with the milk spots as well? IE, sunshine walking Liberty 1 oz. rounds?
Thank you

Anything could have milk spots if improperly processed blanks are used. Milk spots generally don't develop over time but rather they worsen in appearance. This spotting is present, and permanent, at minting but may not be visible initially.

You are considering MS70 eagles or leafs? If so then be very careful. Wish I could be more definitive.

Or possibly just sunshine Liberty. I like the Leafs and the security mark on the leafs, and also the security mark on the Sunshine rounds. My purpose is to stack in case of shtf down the road, I can use to trade with. Thought the security mark would make this easier. But hate to get something that will have milk spots. Thank you for the info. will check the site I intend to purchase from and see what it says about them being an MS70. Newby here. Bought 50 Sunshine rounds, not here yet, in transit. Hopefully no milk spots on them.

If you're looking to put away some prepping silver, I wouldn't worry too much about blemishes on your money. In that world an ounce of silver is an ounce of silver. Many recommend pre-65 coin silver which is the general term for 90% silver US coins. They're already fractions to make change: 10%, 25%, etc.

On the other hand, if you want to collect coins, condition is important. So you kinda need to ask yourself what you're actually investing your money in. Know what I mean?

Milk spots, or spotting, happens on a lot of coins and there are many reasons why.

However, most bullion coins, are repeat offenders.

I agree, if you are into solely stacking, condition isn't going to matter and you wont get knocked for selling a Panda with spotting, you will still get your money AND some premium with it, even with some spotting.

Other bullion coins dont carry that much of a premium. Maples are common so dont expect a premium thats really big.

I do say this tho, buying silver bullion coins that are graded.... can be disappointing. It is entirely possible, not always, but it can happen that down the road your MS70 Panda or Silver eagle, Maple, Elephant etc.... gets some spotting down the road and then its NOT a MS70 anymore.

yup7676--So what you're saying is just go with bullion, like the sunshine eagle or walking liberty? I like them for the security mark. I will be putting these in a secure location and not pulling them out to look at, handle or lust over. Will be too much trouble to get to for that. Strictly emergency situation.

Yes, I mean if you are just stacking, then rounds would do. I dont know about the spotting issues as I am not familiar with them since I dont collect bullion rounds personally.

Or could do a mix of bullion rounds and mix some bullion coins, like eagles and maple leafs. Just remember, some may get spotting on them. HOwever, just to throw a curve ball, I have seen even proof and reverse coins get spotting too.
