In the March 14th, 2016 issue of Coin World an article about the 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel appeared on page 10.
Here is a link:
http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...t-coins.html
I am looking for anyone who has a 1972 P or D reverse of 1967 nickle.
I have not been able to locate one on my own and I am now reaching out for help with this coin.
Please let me know if you have one
Thanks
John

I know one cent cannot buy or sell, but I am curious about hThis coin. This is the first I have heard of it. Is there a link to this article? Does someone have more information about this nickle or a picture of it? I am very anxious to know more about this variety.

Question: I went to Variety Vista to check the ODV/RDV listings, but these don't seem to be there anymore since the update. Does anyone have the link/path?

Why not look at the reverse of a 1967 nickel? Compare it with that.

Of course. But I am wondering if the ODV/RDV reference at VV is missing or perhaps I am not looking in the right place. Maybe it got dropped during renovations of the site.

sorry I do not want to buy one... I want to know that someone has one in hand .
here is a link to the article:
http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...t-coins.html
I have been told they exist. but I have never seen this variety.
I want to know that they are out there and that it is not something that someone thinks exists...
but that they know that it exist.

I have looked at the 1967 nickel and the 1971/1972 nickel to see the differences
in 1971 they changed the reverse.
I have been told no 1967 dies were used in 1971
but somehow in 1972 some P and D nickels were made with the 1967 die
the 71 die has a more detailed roof/dome and the windows are different
also the windows by the front doors are slanted and the top stick out slightly
I do want one but I am not asking for one on the forum
Just confirmation that they exist.
I am asking on other forum for the info also
If I find anything out there I will let everyone know here

Thanks for the info. I did find the article online. It is weird that this is not well known, the difference is very noticeable when pointed out.

I will check my nickels when I get home but don't hold your breath, I only have a few 1972 dated nickels.

I just checked. All of my 1972 nickels have the 1971 reverse. I will keep looking though and I might add this to my Jefferson nickel type set.

OK update on 1972 P or D reverse of 1967:
I want to start by saying:
I am not saying this coin does not exist or that the article is wrong.
I am not contradicting Mr. Scott Schechter about his article.
I am wanting to see proof as I am working on an article of my own about nickles
I have never seen one and I am looking to find out info.
Now:...
PCGS: just said they would answer any question sent to them, but they did not answer this yet.
ANACS:has not answered this yet
ICG: has never seen a 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel
Mr. Bernard Nagengast ( nickel author ): has never seen a 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel
Mr. Richard Bousquet ( nickel author ): has never seen a 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel and will be looking for this coin
COIN TALK: no one has seen a 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel
LCF: no one has seen a 1972 reverse of 1967 nickel
I will post this update on the 3 forums that I have posted the question on
If anyone has any updates or has found one Please let me know.
Thanks All
John
