Hey everybody! My only experience buying coins on ebay was a Ike 1971s proof some time ago... Because I work with money the. it's easy for me just have it from circulation , anyway , I got some extra money to spend and what you guys think about those lot of wheat cents selling on ebay ? It worth the range from $50 to $100 of 500 to 1000 coins listing price ? I know that first thing we need to check is seller's feedback and if they have a good score ... And of course I'm aware about the risks .... if you guys bought those lots before how good was the findings ?just don't want to have 1 teen and 999 cents from 40-50's years lol Thanks in advance !

Worth buying? They're most likely not unsearched, so the answer imo is no, not worth buying.

Thanks for answering .... When I asked if worth buying I did mean if the finds are good ,not only 1940's and 1950's cents ... Without thinking about face value of course If I get a bag of 1000 coins I expect at least 5% (about 50 coins )older than 1930... I'm expecting too much ? Just wanted to hear the opinions from who bought those lots before .thanks

There is no such thing as unsearched. At some point a collector has searched for the coins they want. As a collector I do buy Wheat cent but will not pay more than 6 cent each in bulk. Expect to get 90% 40's and 50's though. If you want key dates buy them separate. just my opinion.

Quote: There is no such thing as unsearched. At some point a collector has searched for the coins they want. I have to disagree with this statement. Mine didnt come off of ebay but I got hooked up with a guy who processed coin at an armoured car facility.. bags were always shipped in and if it looked like it had wheats the bags were pulled to the side.. again I think most ebay unsearched lots are phony, but to say they dont exist is not exactly accurate.. there are people who could care less about searching believe it or not https://goccf.com/t/94241&whichpage=1

I would not buy any bulk wheat cents on ebay. They are most likely searched...and searched very well!

Paying more than .02 - .03 cents apiece for common Wheats is NOT a good buy, imo. If truly unsearched, which these are likely QUITE well gone through, then that's a different story.... Hard to say on the bay....but prolly no semi-keys...mostly low grade common ones.

I see this question asked often enough and there are a number of responses offered. In the end, emotional purchases generally prevail against basic logic not to buy or to buy at the price being asked. To a certain extent, nothing wrong with an emotional purchase provided one doesn't make a habit of it (e.g. another pair of blue shoes, another wrench set, etc.). But it will get expensive and counterproductive at some point.
Guard against the emotional purchases; set appropriate expectations. Don't 'con' yourself; there's likely no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that you've painted for yourself. Start small; learn lessons along the way. Make sure that the lessons aren't too expensive.

they most surely are searched and not worth the premium BS they are feeding people.

Unless you find a very recent impaired proof, to have a proof-like quality coin it will have to be purchased. Hopefully you have a LCS like mine that has a customer bulletin board for posting/buying coins. Many proof Ike's on the board just now but I am mainly a Cent/Nickel guy.
Don't be afraid to buy coins; just do your due diligence and make sure your get the quality buy for the price you deem fair. Not all transactions will be perfect or always in your favor. Accept that you may pay higher for this in order to get a better deal on 'that'. Give-and-take. But hopefully you make more deals that favor you; value-wise or intrinsically.
The thing you'll hear here from the members is to be wary of Snake Oil. Sounds too good; probably is. Running it up the flagpole here will help you make more sound decisions. Again, you will never be perfect, so hopefully the lessons learned are calculated and affordable. And enjoy the hobby; spending some to advance your hobby isn't a bad thing especially over the longer haul.
Best of luck to you!

Buying bulk wheat cents from anyone who knows coins is a gamble with 200 to 1 odds .I think at one time or another in our collecting years most of us had tried it at least once mainly when we were young and inexperienced . So another words, I would NOT recommend doing it .
