Does this coin have the diagnostics of a Henning Nickel. I blurred out the date so as not to sway anyone's opinion one way or another. Edited by jack jeckel 03/20/2016 8:04 pm

Best I can tell, "yes" it does.

The R appears to be looped (a bit hard to tell), so I'll say yes.

To me it is hard to tell if the "R" has a loop.
But the coin does have the look of a Henning.
What does it weigh?
If it is a 1944, then I would say Henning.
There may be other die markers, maybe a expert will give a opinion.
But with out a date .. and what it weighs
I am not taking a guess

I'll say genuine Henning also by the weak definition and rim

I like this post! Well first the R has damage but is not the "hole in the R" reverse. The letters and devices are fuzzy/blurred like a henning but I have seen plenty of 1940's nickels struck with deteriorated dies giving this effect. There is a die crack from the rim to the right of the building and none of my hennings have this crack. But the thing that sticks out to me in this photo is the fields look smooth and do not have the rough/mottled look I have seen on every henning. Of course you didn't give 2 pieces of critical information (the date and the weight) but with just the information I see so far I am not convinced yet this is a henning.

Although the rim is not as worn on the obverse as I'd expect, I do believe that I see "pimples". The loop in the R looks like it could be there but worn away. I'll go with yes.

So, do you know, or just seeing if we can attribute it?

Nice exercise Jack. I can see how folks were fooled. But folks used their diagnostic tools to support one way or the other. Too bad it wasn't a Henning.

Now that I look at the original picture, I see where you blurred out the mintmark.
