I am looking for opinions on this 1805 Half, it has graffiti (initials) wondering the grade and any attribution. The coin is 13.2G,32.5mm, non magnetic and rings silver. does it look legit to you guys? The more I researched the dizzier I got, looking for some help. Thanks! RK

Let's start with what you can see: Is there remnants of a 4 under the 5 of the date? If yes then the die marriages are O-101, O-102 or O-103 If not then the die marriages start at O-104 and continue through O-114 This site will be helpful: http://maibockaddict.com/1805-drape...ollars.shtml

Pay attention to the location of Star 1 in relation to the curl and eliminate the O-#'s that don't match

Thanks MeadowviewCollector, I usually have luck using coin zip, but not much there to go on. The Capped Bust half dollars have a lot of info, but not the Draped Bust section. No Remnants of 4 under the 5. That was my first check point.

I just finished going through the link MeadowviewCollector gave me and I thought same as you johntookit, 13 arrows, date lines up, 5 berries have stems ect, But I can't see the die crack at the top of ES OF (of) STATES and running across tip of wing and down through AMERICA.
I may give my eyes a rest, been at it too long.

I'm not at my desk so I don't have my book. Go to NGC variety plus and look at O-111. Obv is star 1 and star13. Rev it looks like the eagle is eating the star.

Thanks johntookit, I agree that it all lines up. I am going to recheck the coin when I get to work and use my 16X loupe to see if I can find a trace of the die break on the reverse. It is supposed to be on all known O-111 varieties.

Looks like it is O-111. I found it with my 16X jewelers loupe. It is faint but there. Best I could get with the camera. disregard my ugly arrows!

RK Sometimes the die cracks are hard to pick up with the naked eye especially the really fine ones. -MV
