It all depends upon what your budget is. Using Gray Sheet numbers there is very little spread between VG and Fine, from $275 to $290. VF is $350 and EF is $425. AU, which I would classify as a nice coin if it's graded right, is $650. At $285, we are going toward the "all the money" category. I think the coin is genuine. The trouble is the Chinese have made so many of these things that it gets scary. That's why I get back to certified coins. I know, I know. You are probably filling a Dansco Album and don't want a slabbed coin. A VF is supposed to have a complete "LIBERTY" and for a type coin I would find more desirable. But it also depends upon how nice the rest of your set is. I'm not an auction fan. I have purchased most of coins in my collection from dealers, who looked me in the eye and told me what they wanted. I played, passed or on some occasions made counteroffers. I don't make tons of counteroffers because I don't want the reputation as a "cheapskate." And I generally know what things are worth. If you are too far apart on the price, it's not worth making useless gestures. If it were me, I'd wait for something better, but my assets are admittedly more than many people. This piece was in my type set for many years before I upgraded it. When I tired to get it graded, it came back as a "no grade" for artificial toning. As a dealer I sold it to another dealer for about $600 and landed squarely on my financial feet. I told the dealer exactly what it was so I was not not pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. He told me he was buying it for a customer with a raw type set who would not care about the retoning issue. Who knows? That was over 10 years ago, but things have not changed that much on these coins in the circualted grades. I'm just saying raw coins can be a hastle.

F-12. Looks authentic to me. Like Bill said, the bidding is already nearing full retail for this coin.

Looks legit, better reverse than obverse, VG-10. Reverse appears much darker than the obverse - possible old cleaning here.

It could go F12. Nice color & doesn't look cleaned. Not a bargain and a common date though.

I agree that this Von could go F 12.
I feel the bidding will go over $300

Compared to the others available, seems too high a price to me. Looking to fill my type set as well.

Alright thanks everyone! This is the first one I've found on ebay in a while that is uncleaned and in my price range though. Looks like I shall search some more!

Just cannot understand a grade of Fine with only 3 letters visible.

It's been dipped enough that all the natural color has left and then retoned at least once. It is just to "dull" with the addition of the Halo Effect around the devices in comparison to the design elements. A definite details coin.
VG, but as has already been mentioned, its not a lot more to climb to a better grade. I'd pass on this one.

with the others -- if you can delay your spending for a few months and put away a few dollars more a month you can afford a much nicer coin without having to eat ramen noodles and sleep in a box. :)

Looks like somebody won it for $280. Not a steal but not bad either.

Graders are not using LIBERTY to grade coins, like they use to. In March 2016 Coin World there is a good article on grading Seated dollars. They mention, LIBERTY should not be used as a primary grading requirement. Due to inconsistencies in strike among different years and mints. In the article even the VF 25 does not have a full LIBERTY.
