That is machine damage to those devices. Die movement during the strike damaged those devices. The devices on a coin are contoured so when you look at normal devices, the taper in color from light to dark. On the MD coins, the area that is altered is not flat. That is why the color of the areas you find interesting are all the same color. That is a first clue that this is not hub doubling. Here is another image to show this:

Note on the center image. You can see the light to dark color on this image. Now look at the coin on the left? Note the areas affected by machine damage is the same color because they are flat. Now look at the image on right. Note the hub doubling on this image? That is from a doubled die. The hubbing made this doubling on the die, thus the term doubled die. but note the light to dark color change on the contoured surfaces. Hope this helps.
