Hi, I am starting to collect silver coin. So far, all of my coins are 1 Oz. Should I collect 1/2 Oz coins as well? It seems 1/2 Oz coins are difficult to sell/trade. Any advice is welcome

Its all personal really. I like having an assortment of different weights. If you like it for the design or really any reason, I say go for it.

Everybody is different, if you like the 1/2 oz you should absolutely collect them.

You can always trade or sale silver, in my experience it doesn't matter the weight someone will snatch it up.

The Perth Mint has issued some rather nice square pure silver proof 1/2 ounce NCLT coins. Retail at around AUD $30; not really bullion, but rather desirable anyway, they come in square capsules.

The one thing about the halves is... The strike or condition is ofter not as good or plentiful as the full silver dollars. Hence.... Finding some years in the condition you desire may be painstaking, or fun. Which ever way you choose to look at it. I am far and wide from a pro coin guy. But that is one of the things that I've taken note to. I have a nice collection of pre 60's halves. And comparing them to the full dollars, it's pretty noticable the wear difference.

Typically the 1/2 oz are sold for a much higher premium. I personally would not get them in any number for that reason alone. A few, perhaps, but not many.

Markups as a percentage of bullion value get higher the smaller the item. Instead of thinking smaller consider thinking LARGER.
But that means nothing if you like the smaller items.

Buy what you like, but the advice that's been given concerning the smaller coins costing more for the price over spot is relevant. Especially since you lose almost all of that cost over spot if you need to sell for any reason.

I don't think they would be harder to sell. I don't know your reason for the smaller size. I think if it were me, if I wanted smaller denominations, I would just get junk US quarters or halves. I would stick to the 1 oz rounds and not bother with the half oz.

I love my 1/2 oz Lunars. Classy coins and very collectable.

Do not give the 1/2oz to ve a concern.
If you'll take a look at Canadian bullion, there are also 3/4oz and 1.5 oz silver coins.
Collect / buy what you like

They are a novelty as far as I'm concerned. If you like the particular design of a series that has fractionals then sure but as far as stacking them over the standard 1oz'ers, No! Get 1oz government coins and a 10oz bar here and there when you can afford it. And if you can buy the 1oz'ers say silver eagles by the roll that's much better than 1 or 2 at a time if it's feasible for you.

I buy all sorts of different sized coins. Perth Mint have a "Shark" series going on right now where each year is a different 1/2 oz. shark coin. Canada has some weird sized ones too. I have a 3/4 oz. wolf and a 1 1/4 oz. wolf right now. I have several 2 oz. rounds with the Privateer series from Provident mint being so cool. Several 5 oz. rounds as well with the America The Beautiful series being so popular. I even have one small 1/10th ounce coin that I would never personally buy because the premiums are outrageous on them, but I got it free from a website so hey...I'll take it.

Sunshine mint has 1/2 oz rounds and the premium isn't too bad. Jm had them on sale not too long ago and it was a great deal.
