I promise not to do too many more of these, I just started collecting them, This guy has 100% feedback, over 10,000, and is in Australia's ebay, so not sure anything can be done. Collectableswarehouse1 The rim is horrible, the coin looks mushy http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1959-Ber...81978278292?

I'll need some more opinions before I report this.

Agreed, that is a lot of good feedback, and the only way I could get the picture was to screenclip, so they look bad. But for anyone else looking, go to the listing and zoom in on the rims and compare to real coins.

It's a melt value coin... Looks to me like a circulated piece that spent a bit too long in a PVC holder?

The denticles on a genuine coin are uniform in size. The denticles on the subject coin are smaller and not uniform in size. (red arrows) Also, a high silver content coin generally does not corrode with green spots (but a silver plated copper coin might). (blue arrows) The beads at the top of the crown look different to me, but it could just be the photography. (green arrows)

Quote: Also, a high silver content coin generally does not corrode with green spots Again, this looks less like corrosion than PVC...

I guess it could be caused by improper storage in a PVC holder. Aren't they generally on the high spots, where the PVC touches the coin?
At any rate, what about the denticles and the crown?

I just do not think you can be certain from those photos- I think that, coupled with this being a melt value coin, plus what appears to be a highly reputable seller, not enough evidence...

Quote: 18.71 grams 38.15 mm Actually, if the weight posted in the description is correct, then the coin is not genuine. Silver crown should be closer to 28 grams I stand corrected

I missed that also, real weight should be 28.2 grams, not the 18.71 as stated in the ebay ad.

I would have thought the shorter, uneven and not even all perpendicular to the rim (see 3 o'clock rim) denticles should have been enough to peg this as a fake (for a coin struck by modern mint equipment in 1959). Personally, I think this is enough evidence. How could a genuine coin exhibit such characteristics?

Thanks Bobby
NSS, what software are you using to edit the pictures?

I use Windows Paint for simple resizing and side by side photos.
I use Paint.Net (free) for more complicated editing, line drawing, arrows, etc.
