Interesting for its vertical format, with the size being about 160 x 100 mm.

Despite the 1909 date and imperial eagle, this particular short serial number (a series number, really) gives it away as having actually been printed early in the Bolshevik (Soviet) era.

Another intriguing feature is that on the back there appears to be a conversion formula.

The conversion reads "(1 rouble = 1/15 of an Imperial, contains 17.424 doley of pure gold)."

A dolya was 1/9216 of a pound. It was the smallest Russian unit of mass at 44.43 mg.

So, according to this inscription, 1 rouble had 0.774 grams of gold.

Whether it was still accurate after the revolution is another question.
