Hey all, I am brand new to coin community, and I am excited to share this coin I found in a standard 25$ penny box from a Wells Fargo branch. The 1891 Carlos I 100 Reis, with only 270,000 minted, is a semi-key date in this design's series. However, there are none of this exact type on ebay, Amazon, or Craigslist. I was wondering if you all could give some input on the grade and price this coin would go for. happy and successful hunting to all!

Excellent find, definitely worth the price of the box!
That is listed in my 2010 Krause at $17 in F and $44 in VF.
In terms of pure wear it may be a VF, but with the rough surfaces and poor colour it would probably not get any better than an F price.

Thanks oriole! I agree with your grade as well; the details may be VF, but there are just too many scratches in the fields and weird color. But it was a super exciting find, nonetheless. It is the oldest coin I have ever found, and came from a mere penny box. I don't know how that one slipped through the detection.

I guess the why does not matter much, because it is all yours now.

Very true Oriole. I can only speculate on someone else's find. And thanks NickelSearcher! Nickels are my 2nd favorite coin to search other than pennies. I enjoy your threads.
