The coin in question is at http://www.ebay.com/itm/1893-S-1-Mo...AOSwr7ZW8Vo1

The price isn't a red flag, but the overall appearance of the coin doesn't look right, and at least one of the key markers is wrong.

Being fairly new and trying to learn I realize I am somewhat of a one trick pony in this regard, but I was reading about Morgans and learned the die markers for the 1893S, which is one of the big key dates. I have called out a couple on ebay, the last one being what appeared to be an 1883S modified to read as 1893. The big indicator there was a misplaced mintmark.

For this one I notice that the 1 in the date is not placed correctly. I also cannot pick out the rabbit ears or the die scratch in the T of LIBERTY, but it's the date that flags it for me.

What say you?

If I have been learning correctly, the date should be moved to the left and the 1 should fall between the red lines I drew.

There was only one obverse die used for the 1893-S. If a suspect coin does not match that die, then it is a counterfeit or altered. This one does not match, thus, it is a counterfeit.

Most coin photos on ebay are not detailed enough to properly examine those other two markers, but if the date is in the wrong position, then the other indicators are not needed.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I hate to impugn someone's integrity by saying they were selling a fake if I was wrong about it, so I phrased it as more of a question knowing that the more knowledgeable people here would confirm or set me right.
