I started collecting coins 20 years ago when my mother gave me a box of world coins my father got in Germany after the war. I immediately learned all about Krause catalogs, and that my fathers collection while interesting was not worth much.

Since then I have on occasion bought a coin or two at auction and my world coin collection has grown to 3 big binders of 2x2 pages, well over 100 countries, and spans from 1801 to about 1960.

Now that I am retired I have a hankering to actually make this into something for my kids. I don't really know how to "collect" world coins other than by filling in the types (KM#s). Is there a more targeted approach I should use?
Are there any clubs in the Roseville CA area?
Anyway I look forward to chatting with all of you.

/1/ A retirement hobby should be something you do FOR YOU. If you can pass it on, GREAT, but don't fool yourself into thinking it's a legacy - unless you know they will be interested...

/2/ What kind of organization interests YOU? By country & date? By subject matter (people, animals, etc.), by material?

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Burton; Thanks for info. I have not thought about it, but I note I have been buying coins from unusual places. I like to think about what life would have been like in the time and area (India Straits in 1850's for example).

When my older son was growing up, we had a huge world map and would mount coins on it with thread to the actual country. Needless to say he is pretty good at geography now.

Just curious - I wonder if you ever heard of my uncle Lee Swearingen who lived in Roseville. He was a mechanic for the railroad but died in the late '80's.
