The notes on this inherited coin indicate it is a Phillip III, 8 Maravedis from Segovia Mint with a Phillip IV 12 maravedis counter stamp. Looking online that all seems correct, but I cannot locate an exact example. Does anyone see any inaccuracies in that description. I wanted to offer it on ebay, but like to be as accurate as possible.

Here are my thoughts:
1. Yes the host coin is an 8 maravedis of Felipe III. The date is on the rev, but has been partially obscured by a stamp. The coin was minted between 1605 and 1617. It most likely was in Segovia, but there are other possibilities too, and I don't know enough to be able to discern among these mints.

2. Yes the counterstamp upvalued this coin to a 12 maravedis and looks like it was put on during the reign of Felipe IV. I think that the counterstamp was applied to both the obv and rev. The rev stamp is kinda messy on your coin, but would either show 1641 or 1642. I'm going to go with 1642 since that last digit looks more like a 2 than a 1, but would love for some corroboration on this from others in the forum.

3. Thank you for sharing these coins. I know that they were inherited, but I think that you've got a pretty special group of coins here.

Thank you for the information. While I am not a collector, I really enjoy the eclectic nature of the collection I was lucky enough to receive. I usually only post the harder to identify coins and objects, but it also contained tons of tokens and medals. I am planning to sell almost all of it since I am more of a minimalist, but there are a few pieces that I have developed an attachment to and will be keeping. I have to say without all of the wonderful information shared by the members of this forum, I would often be at a loss as to how to proceed. I find myself reading the new posts daily even though it is not my field, and always learn something new.

That one is from Segovia, the top of the arch can be seen on the left of the shield, bellow the counterstamp :)
