Just wondering why the graded $5 Hawaii notes are so expensive in this series? This is the last one I need and I think I may be better off buying a raw note and sending it in to be graded and hope for the best.

$5 and $10 notes are the hardest to come by. You can always get a note of lesser quality and upgrade from there. I picked up a $5 dollar Hawaiian at a show last month because I am working on that collection but I just do not see that many it seems like.

I was at a coin show a month a go and a dealer had a $10 dollar Hawaiian star. Unfortunately that is out of my price range.

The $5 is tough. They definitely are a little pricey and harder to find.

The BEP printed less than 8 million $5 Hawaiian notes.

To give you a comparison, the BEP printed 15 million $1 Hawaiian notes for just the S-C block. Throw in blocks A-C, C-C, F-C, L-C, P-C, Y-B, Z-B, and the stars that's another 20 million.

You should be able to pick up a mid-grade note for about $150 if you're patient.

Yupp, very patient. I paid nearly 70 for a lower grade. Still very intact, no rips or tears, but a pretty dirty one.

I only have a $1 from this set but wish to get the 5, 10 and 20 (raw but presentable grades)

On this side of the pond it seems like quite an impossible task to find decent notes well priced. I am hoping a fellow CCFer who's stateside is going to come through for me with these... unfortunately life seems to be getting in the way for him at present.

Thanks for the replies.

Steve...Thanks for those numbers as well. The note you pictured is the right around what I am looking. That is what my $1 and $20 Hawaii notes look like.

I am going to just be patient and the right one will come along soon.

I still need to replace the $10 and $20 HAWAII I sold to help the wifey get her Plymouth. But I've been stuck on acquiring the better block $1 Notes. I'm looking for Z-B right now. I've got C-C, Y-B, and A-C. Hope you find the best deal ever on your $5!

The $1 and $20 notes are the most common in my experience, with the $5 and $10 quite tough, although this is not reflected in typical catalog values. The $20 seems particularly overrated.

Seems to be similar when it comes to the North Africa's. (I <3 The yellow seals) The $5 in that series is tough as well...
