Hello,

Just wanted to get people's opinion on this.

I currently have collected a few complete albums of pound coins sets(24 pound coins in each album) in Royal Mint album.

My question is :-
What do you think these old round pound coins will be worth in the future, when the round pound coin comes out of circulation next year and the new 12 sided pound coin comes in?
Am I better off keeping these albums for years to come, when maybe the value will go up. Or am I better off selling them now for about £40 which is face value of £24 plus album. If I keep them the value would have to exceed £40 to make it worth keeping

Thanks for your thoughts
Craig

I would suggest holding onto them at least for a few moths up to a year after they stop making them. reason being you may see a spike in value as people rush to buy for nostalgia, or to finish up their own collections.

I am assuming these will still be cashable after they start making the new ones.

It usually takes awhile for currency that goes out of circulation to be worth a great deal. For example, here in the USA we still have some Wheat Pennies and if you're lucky the occasional Indian Head, both of which went out quite awhile ago. However, unless they are in great condition or in extreme rarity you can usually buy each one for a few dollars. I'm not sure if the same with your Pounds will happen but I wouldn't count on a great leap in price within the near future.
Rest in Peace

Sell as they go high. Or you could consider becoming a coin collector.

I wouldn't consider saving any round pound, unless it is in pristine condition, with only just a few tiny, or preferably, no bag marks at all.

Keep all your 1998 pound coins, they'll be worth something.

The 1988's are only perceived rare. They may be a lower mintage issue but over 7,000,000 circulated.
I've just got a BU example.
I do like the design but just spend the worn tat that abounds.

The 1998 and 1999 pound coins were not issued for circulation, only in the annual sets. If you have either one it will be of some value to collectors. The 2016 coin yearbook lists them as £12 in BU.

The 1988 pound coin is the one with the unique shield design. Again it will have some value, although not great.

I'm keeping a number of the lower mintage coins back as I come across them e.g. 1988 and the flower and city coin sets. Is anyone else?

Wish I'd got some 98 & 99 coins as they have rocketed !
