I want to know how rare the 1868 rev 68 variety 5 really is. Cherry pickers list some high values for them. I havn't been able to cherry pick one. Has anyone else had any luck with these or other Shield nickel varieties?

I've gotten a few of the type 2 and 3, but never a type 5. I've been searching on ebay for a while with no luck.

Tough coins. Not too sure on Pops. Probably not too many in decent shape. I did have a M.S.66 1869 narrow date with a 2b rev. Older Cpickers says all narrow date known with 2a. rev. only. (Not quite correct). Cannot remember if it had broken letters. My guess is that it did have the broken C which is more common, on 1868, but just not common on a 1869 narrow date. Perhaps that would make it a transitional 1869 with 1868 rev... Possibly an intentionally made re-strike made for collectors. Sold yrs. ago. Keep pickin. Good field to hunt for cherries. G.

The Shield nickel series is great to collect because you can never run out of varieties to collect. While I haven't been actively looking for the different 1868 reverse varieties I have been keeping my eyes open for some of the harder ones with no luck. Since I just completed collecting all of the missing leafs, I think I'm to start looking harder varieties.
