Good evening, I acquired a handful of silver dimes today and when I got home I noticed that one was a Mint Error. I'm not sure exactly how to describe the error (I know there are quite specific terms to describe them I just don't know them). Anyhow, from the pic you can see the extra material but my iPad takes really cruddy pix and you can't see a light imprint from the dies on the extra line, you might be able to make out the slight bump of extra silver on the rim above the "at" in states, but it's there as well. Basically I'm trying to figure out what it's properly called and if anyone might have a rough idea what it might be worth I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Adm. Tuck

It was not done at the mint. This is PSD (Post Strike Damage). Looks like someone added something to your coin. Basically a damaged dime.

You are right, crummy photo. What's the other side look like? Is it silver?

Coop, it wasn't added after...I put it under a scope and it's all one piece. I know you can't make it out but there is a faint "E" at the bottom of the extra material, kind of at an angle to the E in DIME....plus other faint marks that look like they came from the die.

Albert, it's silver (well, 90% at least, lol)...othe side looks ok, some small "chip" like Mark under the ear but that's about it

Well there is no way that this could have happened at the mint. The rims are present on the reverse so it was struck without the altered add on to the coin.

I agree that it is PMD, something added to the coin after it was struck. You can weigh it for confirmation.
