I've been recently considering registering on Numista, to be able to participate in their discussion (as well as that on CCF), and to have a good catalogue place for my collection (because having to deal with both coins and paper lists of them - and especially the latter - getting lost all the time is getting tiresome).
However, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to use Numista for swapping coins unless I somehow can get a swap with a member from my own city (more plausible on Numista than on CCF, actually), and I don't know how do they check that the collection data is correct (I mean, it's not like I'm going to enter anything wrong on purpose, but I can easily mess up accidentally, especially with all the French types with loads of varieties that have their own Numista pages).
Should I still register on Numista (and enter what I could find of my collection), or is it not a good thing to do until I actually intend to swap actively? (If so, would it be a problem if I participate in the discussion there as well as on CCF?)

I am on Numista and swapped once. I still get the odd request once in a blue moon to swamp. I however joined to swamp our coloured quarters for foreign coins.
You can put a "Away from Computer" or "Not interested in trading at this time" sign up on your profile. I am not sure if this actually blocks people from messaging you but it would let them know you are not interested.
As for messing up a coin's detail you intend to swap: The other guy would either understand mistakes happen or give you negative feedback. It is similar to C.C.F. in that we police ourselves.

The latter T-BOP, I will fix that. This computer I am using loves to change words on me. It keeps changing we're to where for some odd reason too.

I would suggest registering as their catalog is quite extensive.

I am on Numista and I agree registering would be useful and once I put the "not interested in swapping at the moment" I havent gotten any inquiries. A pretty cool way to keep track of your collection and figure out world coins you may not know.

I see what looks like three votes for and nothing against, so I'm going to register now.
Thanks for the approval!

Something to think about though. Just how many places do you want your information floating around. I'm a bit worried about using to many web sites about a valuable hobby.

I started on numista, then found CCF. I got away from collecting for awhile, wasn't always sure what I had. I signed up for numista, catalogued my collection, and was amazed at what I have, it help me get organized.
I had a guy on numista from Latvia trying to make a trade, he wanted a ukraine coin I have, I had it listed as a variety that's rare, with further investigation we found out that it was not that variety, I relisted it, explained & apologized to him & he seemed to understand
I was at a friends house today, her 10 year old son is just starting out collecting coins, With my collection safely at home I logged into numista & was able to show him my country list and a image of the coins I have in my collection, showed him my sway/duplicate list & said I would be able to set him up with some more coins.
Numista & CCF are both amazing tools

Hmmmm... Sounds very interesting. I've got some pretty cool older Polish coins I'd like to trade for some sort of U.S. coinage. This just might be the place to do it!

I use Numista and find it to be a very user friendly site . As mentioned in thread, It is a fantastic site to either swap coins or to inventory your collection. the forum is active with a lot of knowledgable collectors from around the world. I would recommend to anyone who collects coins. Incidentally they are celebrating their 10th Annversary this year with 89,000 plus coins in database. Great site to inventory and store your collection and get a handle on your collection. Highly recommended.

It's actually a very good and user friendly site. I use it all the time, but don't plan on swapping at all. Mostly for my collection and research.

You can of course also be like me and just not fill out any coins for trade. Then you won't be bothered with the trading part either. I mainly have an account there as I think (at least for me) it's the best site to keep track of my collection and to keep track of what I'm still missing to complete certain sets.
