The coin shown is a 1926 and harshly cleaned.

The reverse has also been cleaned, but the photograph makes that difficult to see.

Yeah, with a brillo pad.

However, for a hole filler in an album ? Keep it. Relatively nice looking and one of the lower mintages from Phila. Plus it is an interesting year in that the prominence of GOD in, IN GOD WE TRUST, was a little controversial. The mint claimed that it was repunched because the motto was getting weaker and weaker in previous issues. But others claim that it was in reaction to the Scopes Monkey trial of the previous year. And efforts to overturn the Butler Act.

Interesting Coin nonetheless

I had never heard that about the prominence of GOD on the 1926 Peace dollar. I wonder if the harsh scratches on this coin were a deliberate attempt to sand down the "IN GOD" in protest, since that seems to be where the worst scratches are focused.
