After viewing Darth Morgan's great thread The Last Buffalo Has Come Home - Dansco Complete!, I started thinking about putting together something similar (but with considerably less high-quality Buffalos).

The Dansco 7112 seems to be the right album for me to drop in this 1936 Buffalo. Only 69 more to go!

Dansco albums can get addicting and expensive. They do look nice once they are full though. You should keep your eyes open for a nice used album to save a few bucks to use towards coins to fill the album. I won a Buffalo nickel dansco with a bunch of holes already filled at a local coin club auction for I think $22.

Coin shows are also a good source for used albums.

As near as I can figure, a dealer will buy a full album and break up the set to maximize his/her profit. They they've got a potentially like-new album that doesn't mean a whole lot to their bottom line.

Thanks! And this little Buffalo cost me all of .05 cents. It was in my pocket...received as changed someplace. It's one of my favorite coins, too.

The collection of 1000 coins begins with a single find. Darth does have a nice Buffalo set. I have a complete one as well but I think his is a little better than mine. Quite a few of my key dates are graded and slabbed so I have lots of holes in my Dansco book. I agree some of the Dansco album sets are expensive. I got one on ebay for less than the retail price.

You know we just had a break-in here right across the street so I really need to get my sets into a vault. They guy ignored the ADT sign and just hopped the fence and broke in through a side window. These yuppies that live around me all have privacy fences. Perfect for criminal visitations in broad daylight. I have pitbull and Glock for added protection. I live in a very nice area but that is where the money is so that is where criminals go to do robbery. The woman homeowner is scared to death.

Thanks for the compliments, OldWest and terry8835. That 1936 is a great start to a new Buffalo set. I would highly recommend this series to anyone. I had a blast putting it together, even though it was challenging at times, and I learned a lot along the way. It's such a perfect design too. OldWest, if you want to see some nice key dates just check out terry8835's 1914-D and 1913-S Type II. I wish those were in my Dansco!

One more thing- if you can manage full dates on all your buffaloes I think you'll be glad in the end. I really love bold, full-date Buffalo nickels. Good luck on this new journey!
