1798-Small-Eagle-Dollar 1798-Small-Eagle-Dollar

In 1798 mint engraver, Robert Scot, introduced the Heraldic Eagle design to the silver dollar. He had first used the large eagle on the 1796 No Stars quarter eagle. Many old time collectors much prefer the Small Eagle, seen on this coin. The 1798 Draped Bust, Small Eagle dollar is a scarce coin.
Rest in Peace

I'm gonna say VF-30. I can't get this one to 40 in my mind. I may be off though.

XF45. A couple die cracks reverse. Nice original surfaces. Another beautiful example of 18th century coinage

I'm going to guess it graded AU50 if it was recently certified. If it's in a 20+ year old holder then an XF grade seems more likely. I would give it a technical grade of XF40. Nice old silver dollar!

PCGS graded this 1798 Small Eagle dollar VF-35. It is a near miss for an EF-40. There is a large die break on the reverse as some have noted.

I know some people thought that this coin should grade higher, and I thank you for your opinion! Some coins like this do find their way into higher grade holders, but I try to avoid buying those pieces.
