"US Strategic stockpile silver"?
I guess someone in marketing "coined" that term to make it sound official?
The US Treasury once had a huge stockpile of silver--I'm not sure if it was ever "strategic" though!

This was posted this in the Canadian forum, so perhaps a mod can move it over?

KurtS, silver has always been a "strategic metal, as is gold, platinum, and palladium. The main reason is CHINA! They are using huge amounts of all bullion, these days the same may be said for INDIA.

I would add that they also have "bar" availavle. I think Englehart, is the producer.

Dick, I guess I have a different definition for "strategic", referring to a resource that cannot be adequately obtained within one's country if a war increases demand / restricts intl. supply channels. Petroleum is one of those "strategic reserve" resources, and I imagine a few metals too that we cannot adequately mine in the US (titanium, an aerospace metal might be one.) We have an adequate source for silver in the US, but who knows...it may be one too!

I recall that India is one of the world's largest hoarders of silver. Traditionally, it has been a way to store one's wealth. This may apply to China too--I haven't read anything on that.
