This looks like either a reproduction or fantasy piece. the center spot on the rev is raised.

Yeah...I'd have to agree w/fantasy piece. There's an odd mix of alphabets...a Greek character mixed in with Latin ones.
The portrait looks modern too, but I'm sure the experts will chime in

Yep, it's a repro, and not a particularly accurate one. The "lion looking over it's shoulder at a star" is a common motif on coins of Miletus (A Greek colony in what is now western Turkey). The Wildwinds page shows several with the same basic design, including the main pic at the top of the list.

It may even have been made specifically for use as a button.
