Tweak800, I can see the part you are speaking of, coming out of the middle of the S. I am not sure what I would call it.. It looks like it could be a very small Cud possibly?
I also notice there seems to be a line through all of the other visible numbers, running almost through the middle of each, appearing to be doubling. It looks like it could be hard to see at any less magnification too.
I am curious, what is the coin please?
Thanks and good luck,
Robert

1976 proof dime . Sorry there is no listing for a rpm for that one I would love a new discovery. I was thinking if it was tilted rpm the when they used the punch it could easily only effect the south end of the mintmark I saw it with a loop but I can only take pictures with the scope .

I know on some coins they have a "clear" and "filled" S type. Maybe this is a example of that if it isn't a RPM.

When I can't find a match I started comparing to a year up and down same mint not easy to do with roos to see if a similar look and feel for your coin to 1975-s rpms 0r 1973-s rpms

I see a damaged punch, but I can't tell for sure because of the glare.

I can see a distortion on the tops of the devices. Not like a doubled die, but something altered it after the strike. Perhaps coin ejection? But looking that the different denominations I can find the same damaged punch on the dimes, halves and dollars. The dollars mint mark look real similar to the dimes, but not as strong as the damaged punch issue on your coins die.

The quarters were pretty much normal. So they may have replaced the punch before they were mint marked? (Or had a good punch then and it later was damaged from use)
