Here is a crusty mint state Half Dime. I'm a bad judge of toning. Is this pleasant toning or a real distraction?

I figured everyone will ask for the reverse. I think the reverse is very nice.

Reverse looks good to me. The obverse appears to have environmental damage. Overall I'd pass on it.

It does not look attractive to me. I agree with BH1964. The obverse looks "too crusty" and might be the result of a bad dipping job or maybe even some time in the ground.

Overall,I think it has a really nice patina. Is it in a details holder or did it grade problem free?

It's meh. It doesn't add eye appeal but also doesn't detract. So I would classify it as "neutral" toning

Sorry to pile on, but I don't like the obv toning either. It looks stringy around her nose and mouth.

Wizzy1 - You are asking if the toning on your coin "is pleasing." If you are asking if it's pleasing to me, my answer would be "it doesn't matter." The ONLY opinion that matters is yours. It was either a gift, or you bought or traded for it.

It seems to me that you thought it was "pleasing" when you got it, and now it almost seems as though you're asking for permission to like it. If it makes you happy, that's all that matters. I like the coin very much, but I collect for fun and the joy of researching the history, not as an investment. Thanks for sharing the pics. Jack

I like the colors but not the way the obverse is toned. Reverse looks good.

You ask if it is pleasing. That should be your opinion. Is it pleasing to you?

If the obv had the appealing reverse toning in my opinion I'd love that coin.....but the obv toning isn't appealing to me, too bad,.
