Hello all, picked up three of these sets. I am wondering if this could be a 1938 8/6 or 8/8. If you look at the lower loop of the 8, it looks like a partial loop. Thank you for the help.

the Jefferson nickel was first made in 1938 and the contest to design started in January of 1938 so most likely a die gouge

There are a lot of 1938 nickels still around at the time there was unusual hoarding due to a rumor that these new nickels were going to be discontinued after 2 years and redesigned again. But that turned out to not be true..

you can check it against these for a DDO / DDR there are a bunch

Over dates ended years ago. More of a 19th century thing when the dies were individually created and re-used for some years.
