Weird 2 Lira Coin

Hi guys,Im new to this forum and I was hoping someone could help me! I have two 1924 italian 2 Lira coins...one is made of nickel (on the right) and is magnetic which is correct for this coin and weighs 10 grams,the other (on The left) is made of some metal I cant identify and only weighs 8 grams and is non magnetic...anyone else come across this?

If these coins were silver, the natural assumption on encountering a lightweight example would be that it's a contemporary counterfeit. I suspect this may well be the case here, too, even though the coin may not have had the same face value as a silver coin.

I also thought it might be counterfeit,but,I just cant figure out why anyone would want to counterfeit a coin with such low value....I guess it take all kinds...

Mr .Finger You are asking the same questions I did back about 50 years ago when I found a counterfeit US 5 cent coin in change. I guess that is really why I have always had an interest in circulating forgeries. If you make a 5 cent coin in the 1950s when the average wage is 75 cents an hour or less - is that enough to risk jail time?

Perhaps a Two Lira in 1924 represented a decent amount of money.

In the 1890s one forger listed in Hancock's book was making Indian Head pennies.

There are numerous half penny forgeries from as late as the 1830s and quarter cent forgeries before that.

So I guess the question could be - what is the lowest margin a forger will accept to risk his freedom?
