Hi everyone,

I know, these coins are not that scarce but not as easy to get as normal Reichspfennig coins, especially not in a decent condition. Nevertheless, I just wanted to share some of the latest additions to my collection with you.

After the allied victory in WW2, Germany was being denazified (one could discuss if that process was successful or not, when you think about the large number of people in high positions, such as judges and other officials that were not taken to court in the western parts of Germany after 1945, even though they were strongly responsible for what happened in Germany between 33 and 45).

That also changed the design of the Reichspfennig coins that have been minted until 1948. From 1945 and 1946 on denominations of 1, 5 and 10 Reichspfennig were minted with an eagle having no swastika in his claws.

I managed to purchase a collection of about 120 Third Reich coins (1 Pfennig up to 1 Mark) for 40 € including shipping. Among several scarce dates, I found these 3 little gems that all of a sudden completed my set of allied occupation coins. And I am also really happy that they come in a pretty well shape.

I hope you like them...

Best regards from Berlin

This must have been a very good lot you managed to buy! I think it is rather unusual to find these in normal zinc coin lots. Not to mention that they don't even have the usual white powdery spots.

Thanks. Yes, this is a pretty nice collection. It consists of denomination from 1/2/5/10/50 Reichspfennig and 1 Mark coins. Someone tried to get all dates and mintmarks and even though the collection was far from being complete, I could take out a few nice pieces for myself. Still, I only collect one coin of a type so I will probably swap or sell most of the coins. Not only the zinc issues are in a very decent condition but also many of the copper and brass Reichspfennig and nickel 1 Mark coins. So if anyone should be interested on some of these do not hesitate to get in touch.

I'm impressed, Potsdam! I've never found any of these in junk trays in Britain, though I've found lots of the earlier zinc coins with the swastika. It's surprising really when you consider how many British servicemen must have been out in Germany immediately after WW2.

Did these circulate alongside with the zinc swastika coins, between 1945 and 1948?
