I think I see what you think could be an extra ear. The shape is similar, but not quite the same. The right curve seems too long and the bottom curve is not quite sharp enough. So I think it is not.

I have been looking at other 2003 cents to see if this was part of the design and I don't see this on other 03 cents. curious

It looks like a normal coin to me. When you see most DD's in hand, there's not much doubt about it. I saw a 1984 and it almost jumped out and grabbed me.
