I found this in my pocket change some months ago and recently recovered it from a container. I only guess when I call this a Grease Filled Die. I have three questions, how uncommon is it, have you seen another like it and is it worth more than it's face value. Included is a picture of an ideal struck version.

to CCF. The area where it should read:NORTH CAROLINA reads something else? What does the other side look like?

Quite interesting features. Is the weight, diameter and edge reeding the same as a normal quarter?

Cogmonkey, to CCF. this is a strange one. I think PMD. post mint damage.
John, good eye. Even the word Blue is strange.

Used a better camera for this round. It has the look and feel of a normal quarter and the edge is normal as well. My first thought is that is was damaged and that's why I threw it in the bucket with the other pocket change. Wouldn't the rim in the affected area have more wear though.

This one's complicated. I think you're right in that die grease was the culprit, at least in part. There are some nasty hits ( PSD) on the parkway in front of the tunnel, but the half filled NORTH CAROLINA and BLUE RI, and lack of detail in nearby devices suggest grease. Also, the numerals in the date are somewhat misshapen and the rim has an offset at the bottom but, as you said, the rim is in good shape all around. However, the discoloration around the rim on the obverse has me confused... is that abrasion? The two sides seem from different coins, although it may be the lighting. Anyway, that's my over-analysis.

You can see the incuse devices of NORTH CAROLINA partially on the left side of the coin. Interesting. First one I've seen. But probably not a premium coin though.

I did fuss with the contrast more for the obverse as an attempt to get more detail.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and replies. I've been itching to show this thing off.
