I have a handful of "darkside" coins that have been collecting dust for about 17 years. Since I found this website, I decided that maybe I could trade some foreign for some of the US coins I collect. Well, While I was going through the Krause I realized that I have 2 1957 (58 in the star) Pesetas from Spain both the edge variety with Una Libre Grande on the edge. By the prices in the Krause for this variety, it appears to be the "key" for that collection. Am I getting excited for nothing. One is in better condition than the other, I will post scans later if anyone is interested in seeing them.

I noticed that when you wrote out the description you said
edge variety with Una Libre Grande on the edge
The key variety is UNA - LIBRE - GRANDE. The difference in the edge design are the dashes not the text - you omitted them in your quote are they really there?
Just wondering - if you are not familiar with the difference you might mistake one for the other.

I guess I came to the right place first. I am very unfamiliar with foreign coins in general. I assumed that one variety had no text on the edge the others with the words. I just looked at the coins and they have asterick like symbols between the words, Do I have the good version or the common version

Thanks Swamperbob. I knew it was too good to be true to have two examples of the more valuable variety. So using my disappointment as an educational item for the group, the valuable version would have straight - (dashes) vs. * between the words Una * Libre * Grande.

My Krause catalog mentions nothing of the dashes, only the order of the words is significant. According to this, Una Grande Libra is the normal variety, and Una Libra Grande is the valuable one. This is only for the 50 peseta coin dated 1957(58).
As far as dashes and asterisks... wasn't that the 25 peseta coin that has asterisks between the legends? The 50 peseta coins should all have double vertical dashes with a single asterisk in between the dashes, and these dividers are between the words of the legend.

Ok, did some research, and indeed it is only the order of the words that makes the difference. And judging without any pictures, you have described two of the high value variety. Here is another discussion about the same exact thing: http://www.cointalk.org/archive/ind...t-14307.html
