Well now that I've pretty much sold all my Canadian NCLT I feel a bit bored. While I am still continuing the Canadian silver XFX series ($20 for $20, $50 for $50, etc.) and completing my 12-year long Zodiac collection (yawn) I started looking at the various rounds and bars available out there. I've seen some really interesting designs!

I did very little research on the topic but I assume that 99% of the time these are purchased for their intrinsic value (metal content). Is there a possibility that rounds and bars can command a premium based on their quality, rarity or topic?

For example, I ordered 20 1 Oz buffalo silver rounds and (naturally) examined to find the best sample. I would grade my best one a SP-68 compared to all others @ SP-63/64/65. Does this even matter? Any potential collector for such?

Also, some rounds are interesting by their design, such as the one below. Is there a chance of appreciation?

So many questions...

I don't really think so. Others can chime in though. Silver is silver haha. Paying a high premium for non coin form doesn't make much since to me. Supposedly people will offer you less if you try and sell "secondary market" bullion that is tarnished, scratched, dented etc, but it's still silver bullion and if it were to be used remelted down anyways so lol. What about other guys what do you think?

Some silver bullion rounds trade at a premium.

Private mints seem to be doing a better job making
collectable rounds. Of course some collectors
are not interested in paying a premium for silver
rounds .. but some are.

Check out the Zombuck series on ebay. This is just one
example.

The round you posted is called "The Captain" look at their first round of the series. That one is way more expensive than when I purchased it originally because people found that it was minted only in a certain quantity and the look/design is awesome.

So yes, some rounds can/will go up in value. Silver is silver is a funny thing to say because is a silver fork or silver tea pot only worth what the silver market price is?

MORGUE ANN dollar - this is too funny!!

Thanks for all your responses. I guess anything that is collected can certainly appreciate (beyond metal content).

I also got some really well struck copper rounds. For those I know that I will never recoup the cost with the metal by itself.... unless copper goes to up 10x...

why not just hoard copper pennies instead of buying rounds?

I guess I prefer larger "coins"... variety... and I'm less interested in hoarding per se. Well, I'll see where this leads me since I've only started to look into this recently.
