If I saw this under my loop on a Morgan I would call it a die crack with a possible clash. As I don't know pennies I would like any and all opinions as to what this may be.

Focus on the line extending up from shield toward the F. This is a raised line not a scratch and extends from rim to rim below ribbon. Above shield is so severe I would almost call it a clash.

I have a bunch of 2012-2015 pennies and this is the only one with anything like this on it. On Morgans they are very common and are used to find some VAMS.

What do you think? I have tried to look up, but hard to find info online on new pennies. Any suggestions on this as well?

Thanks...Mont.

Not a crack. Either a gas bubble or a die gouge.

Ty John1. Just found some pics of die cracks on penny and realizes this wasn't a crack. Die Gouge makes more sense. Are they common? Worth holding on to?

Kinda common not worth hanging on to. Just a note: very slight chance it is part of a die clash but still not a keeper for me.

They are just a die event. The damage to the die usually flattens in time and then it is no linger noticed. Unlike die crack that only get worse with continued use of the dies. Neither are a big item. Just an event that happened to a die. If the coin were a variety, the event/stage maybe used as a marker. But if the coin is not a variety, then it is just a die event.

It is not a clash mark. It would be at a different angle if it was.
