The 1857-O quarter eagles were the last $2.50 gold coins that were struck at the New Orleans Mint. It's neither rare nor common, but this coin does have a pedigree. So what do you think it grades?

Oh boy. I seem to see some parallel lines on the obverse indicating "thumbing", so it might come in as low as AU-58. Otherwise, perhaps a 62 or 63 at best, but I am way out of my league here.

The luster on the obverse looks too impaired from the pictures to be an AU-58. AU-55.

That the fields appear too disturbed for an MS grade. My best guess is AU55.

I could see this being a slider au58/63 gold is always interesting to grade. Nice coin nonetheless.

Beautiful coin, well struck, with enough friction in the fields to rule out an MS grade. I'd call it AU-58 and choice for the grade.

My first impression was AU-53 but after a second look I think I can agree with 55. Definitely not mint state.

PCGS graded this 1857-O $2.50 as an AU-58. The coin came from the Brand Collection.

Wow... Just think, that coin probably sat in the same drawer as the 1804 dollar!
