Years ago I found the first 1938-D nickel that had a peculiar oddity within the mintmark. It was so pronounced I put it away. Several years later I found another, showing me that more were out there, and that it must have a cause. I found the third example 2 years ago. Please check out the pictures and let me know what you think caused this mark. Could this be a D over an S?

At least two of them are D/S nickels. They are not that rare and the varieties are well documented.

They are 78 yrs. old, and they only made a limited number of them. I'd definitely call them keepers. Congrats. if you want to document them, you can probably find them here - http://www2.briansvarietycoins.com/listings/cat/33
