Hi, I'm glad I found this forum! I am trying to figure out how much this coin is worth and would appreciate any and all comments on its grade.

I'm thinking in the EF-40 ballpark.

I'm going to say AU-50 possibly AU-53

This coin seems better struck than others I've seen on the internet. http://doubledimes.com/1875CC-Summary.html

I'm still a rookie at variety id'ing for these but yours appears to be BF-4

XF45+, it could grade at AU50. the CC version is a bit more rate especially in higher grades. many were cleaned and this one looks all original. I think it would retail in the $1000 range. nice coin!

Thanks for the welcome and your input; it's very helpful! I'm a complete newbie at grading coins, and I have a small box of coins from my parents' house to sort through. There are old and new ones mixed together, with no labels or any hints as to value.

Thanks for that link, MeadowviewCollector. I think you're right, it looks like BF-4, Obverse 2, Reverse C if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I saw the luster in the protected areas, and I was thinking that it had to be better than EF-40, so I typed EF-40 when I meant EF-45.
