The misrepresentation involves VAM attribution - the coin in question can't possibly be the VAM it's represented as. However, ebay's reporting system won't allow an explanation, so I can't tell them what the problem is and I doubt they'll know. Is there a format under which I can explain the seller's mistake?

Here's the auction:

For those of you who don't know, VAM-79 is a Long Nock variety. The coin in the slab is not a Long Nock.

Don't know if they'll take your word for it, but you can explain it.

Lovely, its Steves Gift Shop, aka SGS "overgrading disservice"

Hopefully the BIN will keep a fool from parting with his money until the auction is cancelled

Here's what I wrote:

quote:
The item in question is referred to as a variety called VAM-79. The auction clearly states that the coin being pictured is the exact coin being sold, and the pictures are unequivocally clear.

This variety has a feature called a Long Nock on the reverse, as noted here:

http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P+VAM-79

It's plainly obvious, quite clear in the pictures, that this coin has neither the Long Nock or disconnected leaves characteristic of the VAM. It's not possible for this coin to be VAM-79. The seller has been informed of the mistake thru ebay Messaging, and is refusing to alter the auction.

A true VAM-79 in this condition would be an extremely valuable coin, and worth a significant premium to a specialist. This is, now that the seller has been presented with incontrovertible evidence and has refused to react, a clearly and intentionally deceptive auction.

This seller doesn't often give us chances this good to slap him. Anybody caring to help, please do.

The trouble is, the BIN is low, but not unreasonably low, for a "true" MS66. It's not a bad coin, and could possibly fool someone.
