Hi everyone, I just picked up this rather rare (70,000) French 5 franc coin from L'an 6 (1797-8). However, while it may have VG or so details, I'm sure that the cleaning and test mark affect the overall value. How would you gauge the value of this coin given the condition issues? What is a realistic value? Thanks!

Hi Bill,

this is a very nice double-struck coin.

I never sow one of these double-struck, I guess, that this pushes the value to around 200 Euros ($250).

Regards

This is the 6/5W with points. Le Franc F.287/26, listing at 100 euros in B10 and 200 euros in TB25. I'd grade it somewhere in between, so 150 euros would be in the ballpark.

Here's one that sold for 180 euros to compare.
