Not sure on this one. There is an appearance of split serifs but I'm uncertain. Thanks for your help.

You might try a green thorn to see if the gunk will come off the mint mark? That maybe filling that area in blocking part of the RPM, or hiding MD?

If the exposed area is flat, then it is machine damaged after the strike or coin contact during circulation. But I don't feel this one will be rounded.

The 'ol thorn trick cleans up well. It appears MD.

Just as I thought. Note the left side of the mint mark is reduced compared with the right side that is wider. Is there any other evidence of MD? (Both sides?) Sometimes the mint mark is taller than the surrounding devices and the mint mark is the first thing to take the hit. I think I see MD on the top left of the 'R' on QUARTER.
