Ok, here is another Morgan, a nice date, with not so nice marks. I am trying to learn to grade these bad boys so if you can tell me why its AU or MS or God forbid EF, please clarify why for me. I am looking at this an wanting it to be MS-60. Its weakly struck and heavily marked, but I don't see circulation wear on it. It is from a friends great grandfather who owned a antique shop. Its been in a 2x2 for over half a century. Thanks for your opinions in advance.

I'd say EF-45, shot at AU-50. Marks don't look bad to me.

No expert on grading just practicing from time to time myself but I think the eagles breast feathers,top tips of his wings and lack of luster on both sides is why coinfrog graded it where he did-others will be along tho.

AU50 also. eagle neck and breast as well as highest feathers show signs of wear

I think all the obverse contact marks hold this back to EF45

I am at EF45 as well. Highest points both side worn and lacks luster.

AU-50 for me, hints of luster around the coin but just enough in the peripherals to pull it from a borderline XF-AU coin to a solid AU-50

I will say AU-53. I would need to see more wear to drop it to AU-50 and the toning, while blotchy and a bit distracting, is not really horrible enough to warrant a drop in grade.
