These cannot be restrikes because the dies for the $5 and $20 coins never existed.

They are souvenir coins, sold at tourist traps near the sites of Civil wars historic areas. I have some that are red and blue aluminum pieces that are sold also.

These are no more "coins" than they are restrikes. Souvenir - novelty - fantasy tokens, yes.

This listing is but one of many thousands that make ebay a monetary minefield that will cause your dollars to go up in smoke. Yet, in comparison to many listings I've seen, the downside for any buyers of these "Confederate" items is comparatively negligible.

The only coins that actually bore designs from the Confederacy were the pattern 1861 dollars from the New Orleans Mint and the cents by Robert Lovett. Any other denomination is a fantasy piece. All of the original half dollars and cents are rare and generally beyond the means of most collectors. The Scott restrike of the half dollar and the "restrikes" of the cents by Robert Bashlow, which were struck on transfer dies, are the most accessible substitutes for these coins.

The Charlotte Mint ($5 gold pieces), Dahlonega Mint ($1 and $5 gold pieces) and the New Orleans Mint (half dollars and $20 gold pieces) did make coins under Confederate auspices. Those pieces were made with Union dies that made no mention of the Confederate States of America.

The $20 pieces are similar to prop coins used in the 2005 film "Sahara".

The film is about modern day treasure hunters locating a "Confederate battleship" in Africa.
