Was doing my morning Newly Listed search for large cents under $30 and saw this title pop up:

1816 LARGE CENT --- 200 YEARS OLD !!

Figured it was another holed, bent, or totally destroyed junk coin like most coins in this search tend to be...

Clicked and saw ... this coin. It's in a SEGS holder, and they helpfully attributed it as a N-9 (which is an R3) and graded it Fine/Light Corrosion. Was going to crack it out as a hole filler -- I have zero experience with SEGS...but I'll let CCF opine on the subject coin. I think it's closer to Good than Fine.

I'd grade it VG-7. The grading services don't use that number, but Sheldon had it in his grading scale. The coin has a nice look for the grade.

You shouldn't crack the case out. SEGS is a pretty reputable service, below the top four.

I'd crack it. SEGS is crap, IMHO.
you cant even mention or even show the grade of a SEGS graded coin when selling it on ebay!

Very nice, many..... many coins in my albums are beautiful coins cracked out of segs, nnc, icg and anacs holders.

I love beautiful coins in my albums and I don't think twice about, where I have to crack them out of, to get them.

It's always been destined for a crack-out. I think I have a grand total of like 8 or 9 large cents / Half Cents slabbed, the vast majority of the others are raw.
