Many years ago, I went into a camera shop. I told the man I need a way to photograph coins up close. He immediately asked what kind of camera I had. I told him I had a poloroid and a 10 mm camera.
Well he wasn't impressed ... LOL
But still he was very helpful and came up with a really neat lense.
Normally this attachemnt would have slid over the lense of a 35 mm camera and it had a square base of about 2x2 if I remember correctly, and maybe even larger.
The was a very distinct convex lense that was quite large and almost as big as the base.
He explained to me that when I took a picture of a coin without a correct lense that my plain camera will make the edges fuzzy as the close up shots were concentrating on the center of the coin and I lose detail as the image spread out away from the center.
This was supposed to flatten out the surface, and it did.

The long and short of this all is that gizmo was cheap and amazing. I had to hold it in one hand and take a picture with the other but it took great pictures and I think it made them 3x too.

I wish I knew what this attachment was called, I would like to locate another as I lost it and want to try taking pictures with one again with a digital. My digital pictures are not as good as I'd like them to be.

I think it was a Cannon product. It came in a vinyl pouch.
Thanks!

Yea, it sounds to like some sort of 'fish-eye' lens. Though I have never heard of one that you can just hold infront of a 'point-and-shoot', but then I'm no photographer.

So kind of you Mila_cent to look and find that. That is pretty much what the one I had did, and this one says for extreme close ups. Sounds like that does the same thing and the price might be inflationary equal to the one I bought for much less in the late 70's.

I would bet that I could hold that lense right close to my digital camera lens and look through the preview screen and see if I am gonna get what I want out of it.

At least now I know I need a Super Wide Angle Lens With Macro.

Thank you very much, both of you, for your help!

If all else fails, take your digital camera to a camera store and explain to a (knowledgeable) salesperson what you want to do. There are an almost endless number of photography gadgets, and you just might be able to find something to help in your situation! Keep us informed of your progress. And post some pics when the time comes!

This is sort of a duplicate post as I had a converstaion going on in a different thread but since you wanted an update and picture, I went and bought a thing called an eye clops. It does not do what I wanted as the OP here. I cannot take a picture of a coin but this does work pretty good on taking pictures of the D over S mintmark on the 1938 Buffalo I shot practicing today.
The quest is still on for an attachment for the end of my digital camera lens.
I still want to take nice clear images of a whole coin to accurately show the color and condition and strike.
