Attorney who stole $1.5 million could face decade in prison
http://www.lincolntimesnews.com/201...cade-prison/

Quote:
A former Denver attorney who confessed to misappropriating his client's $1.5 million estate may soon spend at least a decade imprisoned in a state penitentiary.

Peter Capece sat silently in Lincoln County Superior Court on Monday while his attorney, Eben Rawls III, acknowledged the severity of his client's actions and his remorse for them.

District Attorney Mike Miller is seeking two consecutive 60- to 84-month active prison terms followed by back-to-back six- to 17-month suspended sentences corresponding to the 11 felony embezzlement counts the former Jonas Law Firm lawyer was indicted on in November.

The stolen property included a coin collection which the attorney pawned off for $30,000. I guess the lesson of this is that your coin collection can be stolen even in death, be sure that your heirs are informed on what assets may be coming to them so that proper questions can be asked of estate trustees in situations like this.
