Numismatic Crime Information Center - A white male suspect entered a pawn shop in Fort Smith Arkansas and attempted to sell several counterfeit gold coins(one ounce Buffalo, Eagle, and Kangaroo) in NGC holders. An employee and a visiting coin dealer inspected and used an XRF analyzer to evaluate the coins. When they advised the suspect that the coins were counterfeit he ran out of the store. The suspect jumped into a black Honda Ridgeline with Oklahoma plates and fled the parking lot striking another vehicle.

The suspect used a fake Delaware drivers license in the name of James C. Gordon.

That drugged-out look on his face when told his coins were counterfeit Is priceless! Probably taken about two seconds before he bolted out the door.
Rest in Peace

So the lesson is, never sell fake gold coins while you are having your picture taken!

I'm sorry, not trying to make fun of how people dress or present themselves, but if I owned a coin shop/pawn shop, and someone came in dressed like they shop at a second hand store and looking like a bum wanting to sell me "gold coins", I am automatically going to be suspicious of their motives...

The Australian Kangaroo looks like it could have been real but the other two look like really bad fakes...

At least the surveillance video/photos are of a high enough quality that this guy will be eventually id'd and caught. 99% of surveillance video and photos we see are of little use other than to get a vague description of the subject.

Shop owners pay attention: the video quality you provide may help get you stuff back and more importantly eventually save someone else's life!

Glad this one was foiled, and at least there were no murders on this one. That picture is going to be hard to argue with if he ever gets nabbed.

HMMM ... never knew you could do an accurate XRF analysis through plastic?

More often than not the distortion is HUGE.

Perhaps the results registered copper and zinc and some polycarbonates ... <VVBG>. No gold.
