What is your preferred brand of acetone for coins? Not all list whether they are 100% acetone or the ingredients. Also to hear people results with certain brands would be great.

ANY brand of acetone, so long as it is pure, and not akin to nail polish remover.

That's just it,when I read the container it doesn't say it's pure.

That is what I have been buying from a beauty supply store my sister is a member of because it says on it that it's 100% pure but it is in a kinda small container. I would like to buy a quart size but can not find one that reads 100% pure.

100% pure acetone is available in the paint department at Lowes and Home Depot as well as most hardware stores I would assume.

I buy acetone by the gallon at my local Walmart (I seem to recall it's available in a quart size as well(. The brand name is Klean Strip. It doesn't specifically say 100% but I don't believe it's adulterated in any way, and it certainly works just fine.

T, I checked the MSDS sheet for the brand available at Lowes here in TX and it's 99-100% pure. I'm not sure if it's nationally available as it's packaged in Pearland TX.

I imagine that products labeled "acetone" are essentially chemically alike if sold through a respected retailer, and that the results from using them would be indistinguishable.

As already stated you can get pure Acetone at almost any store that carries paint supplies. I get mine at Walmart. about $4 to $5 a quart.

Our Lowes sells the brand Klean-Strip by the gallon can, which is manufactured by W. M. Barr in Memphis Tennessee. The can says nothing about purity but the on-line SDS says 100.0% (by volume). This means 99.95% rounded up. Works as advertised.

Walmart, as well as auto supply stores, sell the Rust-Oleum brand of acetone manufactured in Vernon Hills, IL. The SDS states the composition is 75% to 100% acetone with no mention of other possible components. I would steer clear of this one.

Blick artist supply stores (and others) sell the Sunnyside brand of acetone, manufactured in Wheeling IL. Their SDS lists acetone at 60% to 100%, with the exact composition withheld as a trade secret! Again, I would pass on this brand. The point of course is to check the Safety Data Sheet in case you're curious about the particular product found in your local store.
Rest in Peace

I remember a while ago one member mentioned a good Acetone should be 99.5 % with the balance being Methanol, Isopropanol, and water.
