And I don't necessarily mean by mintage. For example, I would call a common-date IHC found in circulation in 1990 to be pretty rare. For me, I got a 1955-S dime in change sometime in the mid-1980s. And it was in excellent condition. Seems that someone must have been spending their collection. What a nice surprise it was!

When I was little, I got a Dutch 1959 2,5 gulden in silver as change once. That was pretty unique, as most silver coins were already out of circulation for decades and this coin has a bigger size than its successors (33 versus 29 mm), which were regular circulation money at the time. I still have that coin.

UK coin - 1950 penny (mintage 240,000) when I was 10 years old.
UK decimal coin - 2002 Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games £2 (485,500).
Foreign coin from major country - 1983 French 5 Francs (100,000) - found in change in 1992 during a work trip to Paris.
Foreign coin from minor country - 1976 Monaco 5 Francs (14,000) received in change on vacation there in 1977!

A 1921-D Half in VF when I was a kid in the '50s. Believe it or not, it wasn't worth all that much back then.

Roll hunting cents one time I found an 1896 Indian Head cent, ...you must remember, I live in Canada so, I would call that pretty rare...

Probably would have to say 1980 doubled die I found few months ago roll searching since there's only been somewhere around 500 or so of those found...probably more like 1-2000 but those are the numbers I saw(and no,it's not very valuable lol)

Likely one of the following: 1999-M 2 rubles (I think I got it myself - it might have been from my father's change) 2010-SP 10 rubles with 135 degree rotation (fun story - I put that coin aside because of the mintmark, father noticed the rotation) 1986 commemorative 1/2 sheqel (in Israel, of course, but still) By mintage, for the record, it's probably a commemorative 50 dram ( this one, I think) that I found in Armenia; mintage 60,000 (or so says Numista). But Armenia is a tiny country. I do not recall whether the assorted Israeli 5 and 10 sheqel commemoratives I eventually got from my father's collection were found by me (in the late 1990s, when I was a kid) or by my father. (Or perhaps by my mother?) Judging by the fact that I don't remember getting them, probably the latter, but I don't have that many memories from that early anyway. My father does collect coins, incidentally, though very slightly (he's a lot less addicted than I am, and, to the best of my knowledge, does not actually go out to buy coins). My memory distinctly tells me that I once managed to find an 1980 dated 10 agorot; which, if true, would be a very rare coin indeed, given that the denomination in question was not actually made (in that design, at least) until several years later. Sadly, I stupidly took that coin (along of most of the rest of my then-collection of Israeli coins, which fortunately included no commemoratives) with me to Israel in 2003 (and proceeded to spend it all there), so I could not say what it was in reality.

For me it would probably be the 1972 5c uncirculated coin I found in my spare change piggy bank when I first started collecting. For a 5c coin, $10 is quite a bit!
