Has any one had any experience with coin auctions from Germany. An auction house has a coin up for bids that I am interested in. Besides buyer's premium are there any taxes that will be extra and any import charges getting into the United States?

I putchase somewhat frequently from German dealers (but not in auctions). Many charge a premium for paying with PP, but other than shipping that is about it. I can't remember if I get hit with a VAT sometimes.

If you are a citizen of the EU bidding at a german auction you pay the buyers premium + the VAT on top of that.
This in germany usually amounts to a total of 23,5% of hammer. The premium is 15-20%, normally 20%.
If you are exporting outside of the EU, you do note pay the VAT. VAT is usually 7% in germany.

I don't know if US customs levies an import duty on coins coming in from the EU. You will need to find out. In Germany we do (7%-19%).

Ok Germanicus is right. I just checked the past few slips from Germany and France and the two extra costs were shipping and a PP charge. No VAT.

Double check ALL terms and conditions ahead of time... A couple of months ago I was clobbered with 'Handling Fee' from a European auction house...

Once you've established the commission/premium, which as Germanicus wrote floats around the 15%-20% these days, you're only real concern, as long as you live outside of the EU is shipping costs and possible import duties your customs may hit you with.

Shipping costs are usually stated in the terms and conditions and vary between 8 to 20 Euro.

Regarding customs that's a different issue, of which the outcome is often dictated by how the auction house sends you the coin. I've usually encountered one of two methods: First, registered, discreet vanilla envelope with coin firmly inside. This usually doesn't draw attention from customs. Two, a fully documented registered parcel/envelope that can get stuck in customs for inspection and ultimately lead you to pay whatever the tax is in your country of residence. I hope it helps.
